American Idol-Survivor, Challenge 01: Top 12 (1st Round)

Feb 18-19, 2009. The first leg of elimination in American Idol Season 8 as the show picks its Top 12 was ho-hum. But I’m not here to criticize how disappointing some of the contestants were.

Out of my twelve American Idol Survivors, five were chosen to outsing and outperform the other contestants: Alexis Grace, Anoop Desai, Danny Gokey, Michael Sarver and Jackie Tohn.

However, sadly there were only three spots to be filled. The three will be included in the Top 12 and the others would still have to pray that they be included in the Wild Card.

Surprisingly, and on a very happy and satisfied note, the first Top 3 who have made it to the official Top 12 of this season’s AI are proud American Idol Survivors. Here they are:

Alexis Grace, a 21-year-old single mother from Memphis, Tenn. brought down the stage with her soulful rendition of Aretha Franklin’s “Never Loved A Man.” She was even regarded as reminiscent of Kelly Clarkson and was considered a dark horse.

Michael Sarver, a 27-year-old oil rig worker from Jasper, Texas had mixed reactions after singing Gavin Degraw’s “I Don’t Wanna Be.” Still, America voted for him.

Lastly, Danny Gokey, the 28-year-old church musical director from Milwaukee closed the performance night of Feb 18 with Mariah Carey’s “Hero”, getting the most applause and standing ovation.

So these three had succeeded in keeping their flames alive. Just like in Survivor, fire here means life. Those who leave the show would mean they’ve been burned by the heat of the pressure.

Jackie and Anoop's fire are becoming too strong to handle

Yet Anoop Desai and Jackie Tohn still have a fighting chance with the Wild Card set to take place after a final Top 9 has been chosen. They still have a chance to get that last 3 remaining stools and become part of A.I’s official selection for Season 8. Best of luck to them…and the warmest congratulations to the three who have made it!

Next week, it’s the 2nd round of Top 12 and among the American Idol Survivors, only two are going to compete:

Will they make it to the Top 12?

Will they make it to the Top 12?
